Funny/Random Stories

1. We were at our planning retreat and I was eating dinner on the back porch and a wild wallaby comes up and is sitting next to me, obviously hungry! :) So I tear off a piece of bread from my sandwich and hold it out to him...he jumps over and eats the bread...so I give him some more, this time he missed the food and bit my finger! I learned...1. wallaby's teeth definitely hurt and 2. you probably shouldn't feed wild wildlife australia! :)

Before he bit me!
2. Also at student planning retreat, we were running to catch the ferry to leave to go back to Sydney. I got to the end of the dock with the kitchen stuff and Keryn (Our leader) told me that the knife in the box was not hers (we catered for the retreat and brought some of our own supplies). So I take the knife out and begin running down the dock to return the knife to the office so we don't leave it on the dock, while running my phone falls out of my pocket in slow motion and into the ocean! Fail. It all happened in slow motion and now the ferry is about to pull out of the dock....I leave my phone in the ocean, the knife on the dock and jump onto the ferry. I learned, 1. Running with knives is dangerous because you might lose your phone to the ocean! :) haha...and 2. God does provide in amazing ways and provided a new phone that afternoon for a discounted price!

3. After retreat I went to New Castle to visit some friends there and I loved New Castle!!! It is a smaller feeling town and has the most amazing beaches!!! We played lots of beach volleyball and just hung out for the weekend...so relaxing, but the funny story is I was going to go learn how to surf with one of my friends....we get to the beach and are playing some volleyball and all of a sudden the alarm goes off and everyone is evacuated out of the water....there is a shark in the water!!!! That could have been me in the water! Well, no one was hurt and the shark swam away! All good, but definitely an adventure to remember! :)

Me with my new castle friends! Very relaxing weekend!

Playing frisbee, this is a view of one of the beaches...I didnt take any better shots....I will next time I go up there!

4. When I first got to Sydney, I went shopping for some food and wanted to get some lunch meat for sandwiches. I knew that their system is different then pounds so being the American I am I go up to the counter and questioningly ask for 200 kilograms of ham....well if you know about conversions, 200 kilos is so much meat!!! That is 440 pounds....what I meant to say and as the lady corrected me, I wanted 200 grams of meat....I learned that I definitely need to get conversion factors down before I open my mouth to speak! haha

5. Ok last story, my roommate Jess (Who by the way is absolutely amazing...we have so much fun together from break dancing at night to amazing prayer times together....she is such a blessing)but anyways, Jess lets me borrow her car whenever I need it so I am learning how to drive in the city.....craziness I know....she also has a manual, so I have to shift with my left hand and drive on the left side of the road, but I dropped her off at the airport and was driving back....I ended up taking a wrong turn and Sydney is the most confusing city ever....It was definitely an adventure, but I am learning more and more each time I drive about the new road signs and how to drive in this crazy busy city! :)

But yeah, those are some fun and amusing stories for you, I am sure there will be many more to come!

  2. Ahhh!!! Erin I love you! I laughed out loud at your little stories... I hope I can make it down there to visit you and have some crazy fun adventures. I must say though, I am thoroughly intrigued by the left-handed manual trany... I makes sense with the steering wheel being on the opposite side and all but still... WEIRD!!! I would be soo thrown off trying to shift with my left hand!
